Introduction to NS - the VINT Network Simulator Su Wen Ph.D. candidate, Department of Computer Science, University of Kentucky NS, the network simulator developed by the Berkeley VINT project, has become the most popular network simulation tool used in designing and testing network protocols. My talk is an introductory tutorial of NS. It consists of two main parts. First, I will explain the basic components of a ns script, the script that sets up the simulation; next, I will give an overview of the simulator structure and how you may want to modify or introduce new elements into the simulator. This talk is a repeat of a one I gave a couple of semesters ago. I strongly encourage those of you who are or will use NS to attend, and bring any questions specific to your project. This talk is also a good introduction to NS if you just want to get a better idea of what ns is.
