A Simple QoS Packet Scheduler for Network Routers Su Wen Ph.D. candidate, Department of Computer Science, University of Kentucky I will give an overview of the integrated service and the differentiated service approaches for providing QoS in the network. Research areas in providing QoS in the network include packet classification, resource reservation, queue management, admission control, and packet scheduling. I will focus on the latest research in packet s scheduling algorithms and introduce SRR (Smoothed Round Robin), a new packet scheduler presented at the 2001 Sigcomm conference. SRR is an O(1) time complexity packet scheduler that emulates Generalized Processor Sharing (GPS). It provides better short-term fairness and good end-to-end delay bound. I will present the SRR algorithm and its characteristics.
