Secure Group Communication Speaker: Robert Chirwa, Ph.D. candidate, University of Kentucky; advisor: Dr. Ken Calvert Several research groups are investigating solutions to the problem of securing group communication. The three main research areas are (1) Policy (2) Group secret key management (3) Data encryption. This talk discusses some issues in the key management problem area. I will start by giving an overview of the challenges of secure group communication. Some interesting schemes proposed to tackle some of these challenges shall be summarized. Some reliability enhancements to key management suggested by the University of Texas-Austin team of Yang, Zhang, and Lam at the 2001 Sigcomm conference will be presented. In conclusion, I will talk about how the solutions proposed by this team solve problems associated with unreliable key distribution and also speed up key delivery.
