History of IPv6
- IETF has been working on this since 1991
- Formed the
ROAD group (Routing and Addressing) to
investigate what next generation IP should be like
- In 1992, IAB recommended the next generation be called
IPv7 ! and use
- CIDR addressing/routing
- use CLNP (Connectionless Network Protocol) from the ISO as the
basis
- Caused lots of confusion, so renamed as IPng (next generation)
- IETF rejected this proposal
